Quotes from Art Books

These are quotes I collected over the years, for my own inspiration. The source of the quote is given when I know it.

As we lose our vagueness about our self, our values, our life situation, we became available to the moment. It is there, in the particular, that we contact the creative self. Until we experience the freedom of solitude, we cannot connect authenticity.

Every time you don’t follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness – Shakti Gawain

Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – we haven’t time – and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time – Georgia O-Keefe

The reward for attention is healing. What is healed, finally, is the pain that underlies all pain: the pain that we are all “unutterably alone”. More than anything else, attention is an act of connection. Art requires us to empower ourselves with choice. At the most basic level, this means choosing to do self-care.

True life is lived when tiny changes occur – Leo Tolstoy
