The Life of Van Gogh

For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

My answer is this: I didn’t tell you I had no aim, no aspiration. I just said I found it unspeakably priggish to want to force someone to define what is indefinable.

Painting is faith and it imposes the duty to disregard public opinion.  Paintings have a life of their own which derives from the painter’s soul.

Many are beginning to understand how ridiculous it is to make oneself dependent on the opinions of others about what one does.

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together
